“And They Lived Happily Ever After…”
Have you ever wondered what that meant, exactly? For many, the familiar fairytale send-off settles the struggles of all the characters. The distraught damsel in distress gets her proper Prince Charming, his Highness gets a woman to rule his kingdom with, side by side. All curses are lifted, all spells broken, and all sour step-relatives and other familiar enemies are sent packing to the back pages, never to be heard from again. So what happens next? Where does fictional life take your beloved Brothers Grimm (or other) heroine?
Well, like the schoolyard chants says, “First comes love, then comes marriage…” and according to artist Isaiah Stephens, it’s all about the baby carriage. Indeed, in a series of spectacular illustrations, he’s turned several of your favorite Disney divas into mommies and mommies-to-be. The gallery below features many of his works and each one is an excellent distillation of classic characters playing parent within the workings of the House of Mouse. You’ll be wowed by many of these. All showcase a creativity that helps illustrate what we think of as “happily ever after.” Take a look.
