Man’s Insides Nearly Cooked To Death After Overdosing On Deadly Diet Pills

All Lewis Brown wanted to do was lose a little weight to make more room for muscle. But when the 25-year-old bodybuilder took just eight diet pills in one day, he never knew he would lose more than just his weight. In fact, he almost lost his life.

After ingesting only eight pills of the controversial diet aid called DNP (also known as 2,4-Dinitrophenol), Lewis began experiencing a terrifying side effect: his internal body temperature began to rapidly rise to 107 degrees. Racing against the clock, doctors covered him in ice and made a snap decision to put him into a medically induced coma to try to save his life.

As his family prepared to say their final goodbyes, Lewis slowly began showing signs that he might recover. After three days in the medically induced coma and nearly a week in the intensive care unit, he underwent three separate operations.

Because of his high body temperature, Lewis nearly lost his leg due to the permanent muscle damage created by his reaction to the diet pills. Surgeons had to remove part of the muscle of his lower left leg that had died. After four months spent recovering from the ordeal, Lewis was back on his feet and ready to embrace life again.

He sees his horrifying experience as an opportunity to raise awareness about the life-threatening risks associated with DNP and hopes others can avoid his scary outcome.
