See What The World’s First Surviving Septuplets Are Up To Now That They’re 18!

When they first discovered they were expecting septuplets over 18 years ago, Bobbie and Kenny McCaughey put their faith in God’s hands. After several rounds of fertility treatments, the happy couple were elated by the news, but medical staff encouraged them to terminate a few of the babies.

After the McCaugheys refused to do so, Bobbie was able to carry the babies to nearly 31 weeks and Brandon, Alexis, Joel, Kelsey, Kenny, Natalie and Nathan were born on Nov. 19, 1997, in Des Moines, Iowa. Their big sister Mikayla was absolutely elated!

Over the years, the McCaugheys have had their fare share of publicity. And from that publicity, much help has been sent their way in the form of college scholarships, a 5,500 square-foot-home, a van, a two-year supply of diapers and a year’s supply of Kraft macaroni and cheese.

Until recently, the septuplets still lived in the same house gifted to them by Oprah Winfrey. But once Kelsey, Nathan, Natalie and Joel went off to college last year in Missouri, the household has shrunk in size. Brandon also left for basic training in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. Alexis and Nathan, who both have cerebral palsy, remain in their home with their parents and big sister Mikayla has since gotten married.

“The (years) have flown by,” said Bobbi McCaughey to TODAY. “Just because there’s been so many things that have happened. The memories, the joy, the heartaches that happened. It’s what has guided us to where we are today, and it’s very special.”

Although time seems to have gone way too quickly, we’re glad to hear they are all thriving and doing so well!
