Bed-Ridden For Years, Adopted Disabled Girl Asks New Mom 1 Unforgettable Question

Barbara hoped her other adopted son AJ and Arianna would bond and rely on each other for strength. AJ – short for Alexander James – is also disabled and has a terminal condition called Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, which means his extremely fragile skin does not attach to his body properly, resulting in read bumps everywhere.

Not only are Arianna and AJ brother and sister, they’ve also become friends. This is very comforting to Barbara, who is sometimes called a saint for all she has done for her adopted disabled children.

“I have been called a saint many times,” Barbara said to the Post Bulletin. “And I tell people in reality I’m a little bit insane to do what I’ve done. It is my passion. That’s all I can say.”

A YouCaring fund has been set up by Barbara’s daughter to help raise funds for the family to purchase a new van to transport Arianna and AJ.
